My world changed when I met Bellamy Morgan.
Just one problem — she’s my little sister’s best friend.

synopsis

I’m not “damaged.” No horrible childhood or demons in my past I’m trying to outrun. In fact, my family is ideal — funny, supportive and filled with couples that all follow “our” golden rule:

Find her. Protect her. Love only her, with everything you are, every day, for the rest of your life.

So why is it the mere thought of a monogamous relationship, more than one night with the same woman, sends me bolting in the other direction?

Because I hadn’t met Bellamy Morgan yet.

When I do cross paths with her, everything starts to slowly make sense. Why men change overnight — suddenly blind to all women but her, happy to hold her purse and watch corny movies.

Just one problem — she’s my little sister’s best friend.

synopsis

Miss Maria Garten had one more season till she was firmly on the shelf.
One. More.
It was her only chance, because while some ladies could pretend or sincerely be at peace with the life of a spinster.
She was not among their ranks.
Taking a deep breath, she reminded herself once more to think before she spoke. It shouldn’t be difficult.
Except that it was, for her at least.
Because the only thing more certain than her potential future as a spinster was that Mr. Sheppard was a confirmed bachelor.
A rake of the first order.
Not the kind that would ruin an innocent, but the kind that would charm them, seduce her with his charming words, make her fall in love with the legendary smile and easy manner that was as easy as breathing.
And then he’d walk away to find a new distraction.
Utterly unaware that he had broken a few hearts in the process.
Maria refused to be counted among them.
She needed a husband, not a distraction.
After all, friendship was far less complicated.
Wasn’t it?

excerpt

“I’ve always loved a gentleman in a black coat.” Maria flirted.

He turned, his heart slamming against his chest at her words. While he knew they were on friendly enough terms for her to joke with him, it affected him differently. For her to say such a thing meant that she did find him attractive.

Damn it all, he was reading into everything like a woman.

“And I do love a debutant in a…” Curtis paused, taking in her gown, drinking her in. “Good Lord, Maria,” he murmured hoarsely, swallowing hard and immediately berating himself for being so careless with his words. He cleared his throat and forced a charming grin. “You’re lovely! Quite angelic, if I say so myself… even if I know better.”

“Thank you, I think.” She grinned wryly. Her gaze shifted to the room, scanning it thoughtfully.

“Looking for someone?” Curits asked, deftly angling toward her, moving in closer.

“Yes. You know I am, thank you kindly,” she answered, not even turning slightly to address his question.

“Have you had any more… contact?” he asked, knowing full well she had.

“Maybe, maybe not.” She shrugged.

“Oh, is that how you’re going to play it, minx? Confide in me and then leave me out in the dark?” he joked, using her distraction as the prime opportunity to scan her features, catalogue them in that devastatingly beautiful gown. His mouth grew dry as he noted the way the braided cord accentuated the swell of her perfect breasts, while draping with the barest of hints over her round derriere. Dear Lord, she was killing him without a weapon.

“Very well, you have a point. It’s not very sporting of me to keep you in the dark when you’ve been nothing but supportive.” Maria gave a small sigh. “He said that I’ll dance with him tonight.” She turned, her gaze alive with delight, practically overwhelming him with a humbling elation.

She was this excited about him… only she didn’t know it was him.

Would she be so thrilled if she knew?

The thought was sobering, and he cleared his throat before responding. “Ah, so some of the mystery will be solved then!”

“Yes! Of course, no one has asked me to dance yet, but… maybe he hasn’t arrived.” She gave him a slightly worried look, her dark-winged brows drawing together slightly.

“Well, just because he’s not made his move doesn’t mean you have to be a wallflower. Let’s take the next dance and give him something to be jealous over, don’t you think?” He leaned in closely, inhaling softly the scent of rosewater clinging to her shoulder as he paused just above it.

She sighed and turned then paused. Her green eyes wide, she blinked at his proximity before blushing as he gave her a wink and offered his hand.

“You’re wounding my ego,” he said as he wiggled his still-empty hand, his heart pounding hard at the thought of her rejection.

“Sorry, yes, of c-course.” She seemed to collect herself and placed her hand in his.

How could holding a woman’s hand be so sensual? Yet, as his grip tightened slightly over hers, his body responded. He forced his thoughts away from the path they tried to take, one that led to visions of that very same dress pooled in a heap on his bedroom floor. “How are the tulips?” he asked, forcing his thoughts into line.

“Alive. How chivalrous of you to care.” She arched a brow at him, grinning.

“That’s me. What can I say? I care about children, small animals, and tulips. I’m a regular saint.” He chuckled as they meandered through the room toward the dancing floor.

Maria stifled a giggle.

“Mocking me?” Curtis asked.

“Never.” Her eyes were a mask of innocence, an expression that at once had him narrowing his eyes.

“And a lady such as yourself would never stoop to use sarcasm,” he answered with a hint of sarcasm and a grin.

“Indeed. Never,” she replied haughtily then proceeded to giggle. “Never!” she repeated with exaggeration.

Curtis chuckled, taking pleasure in the way her grin lit up her countenance, enchanting him. Yet as his gaze left her face, he noticed the regard of several other gentlemen as well, watching her thoughtfully.

With interest.

Bloody hell.

“Shall we?” He led her out to the floor to the beginning of the quadrille. As they performed the steps and spun around, he grinned at the way she danced with graceful abandon. While her steps were perfectly executed, a lively nature reflected the wit and humor she possessed. How had he missed that before? As she gave him playful grins, he found himself lost in the merriment of the moment. Was this what he had been afraid to face? Had he truly felt that a life of lonely bachelorhood could compare to this carefree joy?

The song ended all too soon, and before they exited the floor, Lord Huffton approached, asking Maria for a dance. She obliged, and as they turned to the dance floor, she glanced back, giving Curtis a wide-eyed grin full of implication.

Damn it all, for the rest of the night she’d think each partner could potentially be her admirer. She’d laugh, flirt, and beam those beautiful smiles in their direction.

While he watched.

And bloody hell, he had no one to blame for it but himself.

#ICYMI Release blitz! THE CAPTAIN’S REVENGE by NADINE MILLARD

Title: The Captain’s Revenge
Author: Nadine Millard
Series: The Revenge Series
Genre: Regency Romance
Publisher: Blue Tulip Publishing

Will his desire for revenge ruin his only chance for love?

Lucas Townsend learned long ago not to trust a woman with his heart; a lesson taught by the beautiful and aloof Anna Spencer.
Having had his heart broken by Anna for being nothing more than a merchant’s son, Lucas dedicates his life to becoming someone she couldn’t look down on.
Now, years later, he’s the toast of the ton and finally in a position to give Anna a taste of her own, bitter medicine…
Anna Grant has never stopped loving Lucas Townsend, contrary to what he believes about her.
Having lived her life mourning the loss of love and envying other people’s adventures, the opportunity arises for Anna to have an adventure on her own.
Does she have the courage to seize the day, and win back the heart of the brooding captain she used to know?
Can the sins of the past be forgiven, and can love find a way to conquer all?
There had been quite a buzz round London about the contracts secured by The Western Shipping Company lately. He’d been careful to keep his name out of it as much as possible, but not much got past former agents of the Crown, he supposed.
Lucas inclined his head in confirmation, earning a low whistle from Andrew.
“I see you’ve been modest,” he said.
Lucas fielded more and more questions, all the while noticing that Anna asked not a single one.
And her silence began to grate on him.
Then, of course, his anger flared at himself for not getting it through his thick skull that she simply didn’t care, and at her for not caring.
As the evening wore on, Lucas became steadily more furious with the beauty sitting across the table from him.
Finally, as the footmen began to serve plum pudding and lemon posset, his control snapped.
“I am sorry, Mrs. Grant, if details of my new business venture bore you. I am sure it is not nearly as interesting to you as the latest on dit or salacious gossip so attractive to the less-than-intelligent ladies of quality.”
His words brought an immediate and shocked cessation to the chatter round the table, but Lucas’ sole focus was on the woman sitting across from him.
Her head whipped up at the comment, and her eyes narrowed.
She was clearly unhappy with him, and he felt a sick sort of satisfaction as he watched her cheeks flame. It was no more than she deserved.
Her amber eyes glittered in the candlelight, and for a moment, he thought she might cry.
But as he watched, her face transformed into a mask of snobbish disdain.
She became the Anna he knew her to be: a cold, uncaring snob.
“What the—”
Jonathan’s voice came from the top of the table, harsh and furious-sounding, but with a quick glance, Lucas saw Gabby place a hand on her husband’s arm and whisper something.
Whatever it was, it was enough to have Jon, who was half standing from his chair, sit back down. It did nothing, however, about the glower he had fixed on Lucas.
“The tales of your little business ventures do not bore me, Captain Townsend,” Anna responded now, contempt dripping from every word. “It is always nice to hear of a nobody doing well for himself.”
A gasp of shock sounded from one or both of the ladies, but Lucas didn’t even spare a glance this time.
He was glad, he told himself, even as his heart thundered with anger and humiliation. He was glad that she was showing her true colours.
“I am glad you approve,” Lucas countered, keeping his tone calm and even. “Thankfully in the West Indies, people aren’t as rigidly disapproving of birth and blood. Some of them are even crazy enough to make love matches, for example, instead of marrying monsters with the right connections.”
“That’s it.”
At the sound of a chair scraping, Lucas broke eye contact with his nemesis and watched Jonathan stand and fling his napkin on the table. But before the man could speak to throw Lucas from his home, presumably, another chair scraped back and Anna, too, was on her feet.
“How dare you?” she asked quietly.
Had she ranted and railed like any number of females would in such circumstances, Lucas would have been rather amused.
But she remained so cool, so wholly unmoved by emotion, that it just reiterated his point. She was incapable of feeling anything real. Anything raw.
“Hit a nerve, did I?”
Lucas came slowly to his feet.
He was about to be tossed out on his arse anyway, and he didn’t appreciate sitting there with her standing over him like a governess scolding her charge, even if there was a giant mahogany dining table between them.
“Hardly,” she scoffed. “To hit a nerve, your opinion would have to matter to me. And it doesn’t.”
“I am well aware of that, Anna.”
His softly spoken words seemed to bring her up short for a moment, and she blinked slowly as she stared at him.
But then her expression hardened once again.
“Good. Well, I hope you are also aware that you have no right to an opinion on my life, or my marriage, or anything else to do with me.”
She was gathering steam now. He could tell by the terribly distracting way her chest was heaving in that gown that would give him sleepless nights for weeks to come.
“You might have clawed your way to the top, Captain, and thrown everything real away for the chance of some money and notoriety, but stepping on people on your way there is the lowest of the low, and you are in no position to judge me or anyone else for that matter.”
Lucas felt as though he’d been slapped as her words hit him.
How dare she stand there and pontificate because he’d made the best of a situation he’d been thrown into?
His rage burned red hot until he had to clench his fists lest she see them trembling.
A quick look round the table told him that her family was not only shocked at his and Anna’s argument, but more than a little curious about it, too.
Well, let her deal with the explanations.
He was bound for the West Indies, and it would be years before he returned, if it all.
She obviously hadn’t made any of them privy to her history with Lucas, no doubt embarrassed by her lapse in judgement.
“Well…” He broke the tense silence. “…given how I am sailing on Friday and won’t be returning to these shores for quite some time, I will no longer be around to judge or offend you.”
Her face blanched at his words.
“You’re leaving?” she blurted, then clamped her mouth shut as though she hadn’t meant to ask.
“You knew I was leaving,” he bit out.
“Yes, but — well, for good?”
“It’s possible. Are you going to pretend you care?” he sneered.
Her mouth set in a mutinous line at his words.
As parting shots went, it wasn’t very good, but suddenly the fight went out of him.
She had humiliated him once again, called him a nobody, let him see in black and white what she thought of him, and the fury he felt, a fury which had no outlet because he could hardly rail at her in front of her family, was exhausting.
“I don’t make a habit of pretending to care about people, Lucas,” she said scornfully.
“Just once was enough?” he retorted.
He watched a riot of emotions race across her face before it became expressionless.
“I’m tired of this conversation,” she said as she sat primly back in her chair.
Lucas was so surprised at the sudden change in her that he stood stock still.
Anna fussed with the folds of her gown for a moment or two.
Nobody else moved.
He imagined they looked like players in a terribly awkward play.
It probably would have been amusing had he not been so furious.
After a moment, she looked up and raised a brow. “Are you still here? Weren’t you storming off to India or somewhere?”
Lucas told himself that the dull throb in his chest wasn’t hurt. Wasn’t disappointment.
He turned to address the others seated at the table. “Thank you for having me and for wishing me well,” he said formally, as though the last few minutes hadn’t happened. “I’m afraid I shall have to take my leave earlier than anticipated. There is much to be done before I sail to the West Indies.” He accentuated this last part for Anna’s benefit, but she was studiously avoiding any eye contact.
“I won’t pretend I’m going to miss England,” he continued pointedly. “It will be infinitely warmer in places new.”
Bowing to the ladies and not awaiting a response, Lucas swept from the room and out of the Mayfair townhouse as fast as his feet would carry him.
Friday could not come soon enough. He desperately needed an ocean between himself and that woman.

She has a weakness for crude-humored movies and fried pickles, and loves curling up in a fluffy comforter during a thunderstorm … or under one in a bathtub if there are tornados. That way she can pretend they aren’t really happening.

excerpt

As his lips claimed hers, he wanted to consume all of her in the kiss. He realized somewhere in the back of his head that she wasn’t fighting him. She was standing there, stiff against him and the wall, and he softened the hold on her arms, still not wanting to let go, unsure if he was even able to let her go. He wrapped his arms around her, holding her into him, drawing her closer. He caressed her with his fingertips, urging her to come closer toward him, trying not to force anything on her. He wanted her to have a say, but he wasn’t so sure of himself. He wasn’t so sure if he’d be able to let her go if that was what she wanted.

She tasted the way he thought she would, and he lost himself in the kiss.

Suddenly, Casey was kissing him back, and he knew she was there with him when their mouths started dancing the slow seductive dance, testing the angles that would give them more of each other. He sipped the heat from her, transferring his own to her, letting her know that this would end in a fast and wild dance. A dance that only the two of them would share.

I was born in Euclid, Ohio, living in Wickliffe until I was seven. It was then that we moved to a small town in Kentucky. I married young and still live in that small town with my husband. We have three children, a daughter-in-law, and three (almost four now!) grandchildren. Our parents all live close by, as well as our children. I love watching my birds on the deck and having herb gardens and trees. My pinterest account is mostly filled with books I love reading and also on gardening ideas.

I’ve always enjoyed writing. It wasn’t until the death of my middle sister, that I found that I could escape my daily life in writing, it was a great way to deal with the mourning process. The only sharing I did during this time was for extra credit in school and for my friends and family.

My desire to write took a side-burner when I had children of my own. But with time passing, the stories became more like little movies and I knew I needed to write again. As I worked on this book, I never thought I would do anything with it, but as time passed, I knew I wanted to share it! One of my favorite authors, Susan Mallery was going to be at a convention. She kept posting about the RT convention, and so I ended up going to my first one. I learned a lot there and made some wonderful friends (Monica, Damon, and Stephanie), but most importantly, it gave me direction. The second one I attended, I submitted my book to the company I fell in love with through Monica.

I work as a paramedic and love this job also! It’s very rewarding as it is also stressful! EMS does not get the justification as it should, especially when EMS and firefighting are two separate identities as in most smaller communities. Most of my off time is filled with family and getting the time to just stay at home.
