Review

3.5 Stars!!‎

It really took me a while to come to terms with the rating I’ve given to this book. I, more than, enjoyed the characters, their development, interactions, banter… I could go on. If you’re looking for hot, this is your book!  But I felt I needed more!  More conflict. This couple did not have one argument!  I guess I just wanted a more realistic approach…

This book is steamy, scorching even!  It’s set in Paris!  It’s got two really well-developed characters. Characters that I immediately liked. Especially Gemima! There were times I laughed out loud at her non-filtered words!  For instance – she’s offered a drink at a restaurant and adds,

“No ice or I’ll freeze my tits off!”

Epic, right?!  Gemima was forward, outspoken, and sassy. She’s successful as an interior designer having just started with a new prestigious company. She’s just out of a long-term relationship that didn’t exactly end with rainbows and unicorns.  I adored her!  Her and her inner thoughts were amazing!  I loved the sweet of this book, loved the sassy, the intricacies and circumstances of the way Gemima and Logan met.  It was truly refreshing and different. With instant chemistry that was clear right from their first meeting. I remember reading that with a huge smile on my face!

“I cross my legs tighter.  Seriously, this charge between us is doing things to me.”

Logan?  Where should I start? Logan was hot, strong, sexy, and described as ‘manly’.  He’s genuine and down-to-Earth. And he’s got dimples!!!  I know, right!  Logan owns the largest construction company in Paris. He lets it be known at their first meeting how intrigued he is with her. How taken he’s been with her for almost 2 years!  Logan makes Gemima feel vulnerable yet completely safe and trusting. He’s charming almost to a fault. He seems perfect and the whole time I’m waiting for the other shoe to drop…

“You unravel me completely.”

The entire book – entire book! – I waited for that arc. That curve that leads to the angst. The conflicts. The stuff under all the sex. And truly, if you want a book with great characters that has LOTS of sex and scorching scenes?  This is really it!  Again, Gemima and Logan are not shallow. They are not wishy-washy. They are stand up, professional, and fun to read. But, in that same context – they are Americans. They are living in Paris, yes. But some of the verbiage is strange. I know the author is Australian, and that clearly bleeds into these characters. But it’s just not consistent.  For instance, “…give us another go,” instead of ‘give us another chance’. And in describing how one feels about another – “I’m well shot of him”.  It’s really hard to imagine a person who is born and raised in the states saying that! I know it’s silly, but when trying to keep my minds eye on the characters physical traits and finding their voice in my head as I’m reading, it was always popping up.

I’m anxious to read part 2!  This book ends minus a huge cliffhanger, but there is clearly more to their journey!
