Morgana Drake has some problems in her life.
Problem #1: She has a boss she hates. Truth be told everyone at her company hates him, he’s a jerk.
Problem #2: Morgana fantasizes and has sex dreams about her awful boss because he is just sooo good looking. She may have done a lot more than fantasize, but please don’t tell anyone.
Problem #3: She wants to get into her company’s Executive Development Program, but there is one thing standing in her way. You guessed it, her boss.
Problem #4: Morgana needs to get laid by someone other than her boss. She feels if she likes someone else she will stop lusting after Henrik Payne.
Henrik Payne is very serious about his job. He has worked hard for over ten years to become VP of Sales and Marketing and make Mimir the third largest online retailer. He has rules he follows to make sure the company and his life run smoothly.
Rule #1: Know the company from the ground up and the people who make this place great.
Rule #2: Don’t do anything that might negatively affect the company or him.
Rule #3: It’s best not to date women. If he does, they are to be kept at a distance. Emotions cloud judgment and can cause harm to the company if he is with the wrong woman and reveals too much.
Rule #4: Don’t drink. It weakens people’s resolve, makes them act ridiculous and can make them do horrible things. Things that can’t be undone.
So, why does he keep breaking all his rules?
3.5 cake-eating STARS!!
“When you got junk like this in the trunk and milkshakes that call all the men in the yard, then you need to let it shine.”
Please read this book! Author Elizabeth Lynx did an amazing job!! It really kills me inside to give the 3.5 Stars because there were parts that were standing O brilliant but there were parts that were not so much. The book is written in dual POV and, honestly, is the saving grace.
I liked Morgana, but I loved Mr. Payne! Morgana is a 30-year-old assistant to 34-year-old VP Henrick. They have a … love-hate relationship. She knows all the wrong buttons to push and he’s a ‘Mr. Payne-in-my-ass’. It’s funny, this book! Laugh-out-loud, my kids liking at me like I have 3 heads, humor! One of my notes was –“I’m thinking holy balls! This has to have really happened because you can’t make this shit up!” But here’s the thing about that, some of it I found to be a bit juvenile for the characters. Morgana even says at one point, “what am I sixteen?” Even some of the back and forth between Morgana and Henrik was childish. Pulling pig-tails at the playground type stuff. I was also confused about the mentioning of a horrific boyfriend experience. We get the full-story regarding Morgana’s ex and why they are no longer together, but I guess I just didn’t see the need for that. Felt it was filler really. I did enjoy the her inner banter with her heart/body and her brain! And OMG, her family, especially her Grandma, were great!!
“This just pisses me off even more; I look like a cartoon, and he looks like he walked out of a Burberry catalog.”
Henrik was tough, sharp, and seemed to be brooding half the time. And, at first, I thought that he was a grade-A jerk-off. But then the magic happened!! The chapters, that are cleverly named, began in his POV! And, alas, two side to every story is the truth! I enjoyed his character. Saw that his flaws are but scars from the past. Saw a much softer, gentler side of him. Don’t get me wrong, this book is as steamy as it is funny. So being in Henrik’s head while he’s hot and bothered was brilliant! I also found his interactions with Morgana seemed much more organic. Much more engaging. I found the book much more predictable through Morgana’s eyes than I did Henrik’s. And WOW! What happens when they first meet! Gold!!
“Morgana aggregates me more than any other woman I have ever known, but she also arouses me more than any woman I have ever known.”
This book ends with an explosion of a cliffhanger! Generally, I don’t read cliffhanger’s unless all books in series are available for reading. But the premise of the book intrigued me – thoroughly!! There are silly parts, funny parts, hot parts, and parts of them go back and read again! There is even an underlying vibe of BDSM. There is also a forbidden feeling during the book. He is get his remember!
