One of my favorites for 2015!
“… she once left him heartbroken.”
“… the one guy she ever truly loved.”
by Prescott Lane
Release Date: Feb. 24, 2015
For Gage Montgomery, that someone is Layla Baxter. When he was 18, he took one look at the chocolate-haired bookworm with porcelain skin and knew his life would never be the same. But it all came crashing down when Layla suddenly and mysteriously disappeared from St. Simons Island — leaving him with nothing but her angel wing pendent around his neck. For 12 long years, Gage couldn’t shake what happened, if he’s the one to blame, wondering where Layla might be. When their paths finally cross, he’s determined to get the answers he’s spent his life searching for — and to get the girl, too. Quiet Angel is a story of hope, survival, and lost love made new again.
“I missed you, too, but you were never far.” Gage touched his shirt with the wings inside. “You were always there.”
5 poetically perfect STARS!!!
I undeniably LOVED this book! Every once in a while, a book really captures your heart and pulls at your soul. Every once in a while an author – Prescott Lane – comes along and poetically masters a book. With words that harbor so much meaning you can’t stop reading and feels that you can’t help but to feel. You can’t put it down even for a second because, for the love of all that is, what the hell happens next!
I won’t give away any specific information about this book. No spoilers here folks! But here’s what I will say …
“Butterflies are signs from angels. They mean change is coming – a transformation.”
I adored Layla and Gage, their problems, their connection. And I couldn’t get enough of the secondary cast! (Small note to author – Poppy and Dash need a book!) Moving on. This book was subtly layered. This book evoked almost every emotion possible. I felt sadness, hope, desperation, angst, need, pride, confusion, and love. Love that truly did stand the ‘test of time’. Unbelievable!
“4,524 days ago, I saw the most beautiful girl I’d ever seen. Then I lost her. 70 days ago, I found her again.”
I couldn’t get enough of their seemingly instant connection. It seemed as if they were meant to be where they were at that exact moment. They found each other just as they both needed someone. Layla was having some ‘complications’ with her family so she’s staying with her grandmother on St. Simmons island. Gage came to the island every year for summer. From the moment they meet, Gage knew everything had changed. She was different to him. Not like all the others girls back home. And Layla somehow finds him comforting as well. As they get to know each other, I could feel the uncharted heat between them. They hung out, talked about their dreams and, more than once, I found my cheeks sore from constantly smiling 🙂 And ohmigosh I loooovd his nickname for her. Every moment they spent together, seemingly perfect.
“He knew she wasn’t coming back – not this morning, not tonight, not ever.”
As the book progressed, my emotions were especially heightened! What happened in the 12 years since they had seen one another?! I think that’s the best part of reading an excellent book such as this. At first there are so little details and so many questions. As you dive deeper, become vested, you find all the puzzle pieces to make the picture just right. Looking back, I am blown away at all the bread crumbs that the author left. How I didn’t know at the time I would need that bread crumb – but I picked it up anyway. Every word, sentence, paragraph, and page mattered. There were no stones unturned.
The book has an HEA and is told in 2 parts. One – 12 years ago. Two – Present day. Brilliant choice! It was chronologically seamless! And being it’s in third person POV, I was able to be in the heads of both characters! I have been a fan of Prescott Lane since Perfectly Broken – another must read – and I have to say she raised the bar. Hats off to you, Prescott! This book will stay with me for a while. So go forth good book people! Go take the fascinating journey that is Quiet Angel!
